Ratio and Proportion:

1. The ratio of third proportional to 10 and 20 and the mean proportional between 49 and 64 is:

Solution:
                Let the third proportional be x.
                10:20::20:x
                4x= 20*20
                x= 40.

               The mean proportional between 49 and 64 is (49*64)1/2 = 7*8 = 56.

               The ratio between them is 40: 56
                                                                5: 7
      

2. In a ratio, which is equal to 4:9, if the antecedent is 16, then the consequent is:

Solution:
                Let the consequent be x.
                4/9  = 16/x
                x = (16*9)/4
                x = 36.
