Aptitude Day 102

Ratio and Proportion:

1. The sides of the triangle are in the ratio 1/6: 1/4: 1/5 and its perimeter is 148 cm. The length of the longest side is:

Solution:
                 The given ratio is
                           1/6: 1/4: 1/5 = 10: 15: 12

                 The total ratio is 10+15+12 = 37.

                 The largest side = (15/37)*148
                                           = 60.

2. The ratio of the number of boys and girls in a school is 1:3. If 10% of boys and 30% of girls are scholarship holders, what percentage of students does not get the scholarship?

Solution:
                90% of boys don’t get the scholarship = 90/100(x)
                70% of girls don’t get the scholarship = 70/100(3x)

By adding these two, we’ll get 3x.
               The total ratio is x+3x = 4x.

The percentage of students who do not get the scholarship = 3x/4x(100)
                                                                                                             = 75%

Aptitude Day 55

Problems On Numbers 1. The difference between the squares of two numbers is 28000 and the sum of their numbers is 400. Find the numbers. Solution:                 Let the 2 numbers be x and y.                 (x 2 -y 2 ) / (x+y) = 28000/400                 (x+y)(x-y) / (x+y) =  70                 x-y = 70 ------ Equation 1                 x+y = 400 ---- Equation 2                 By solving equations 1 and 2 we get,                 x = 235 and y = 165.                 The numbers are 235 and 165. 2.
