Problems on Percentage:

1. From the salary of an officer, 20% is deducted as house rent, 10% of the rest, he spends on conveyance, 30% of the rest he pays as income tax and 20% of the balance, he spends on clothes. Then, he’s left with 8024. Find his total salary.

Solution:
                  80/100 * 90/100 * 70/100 * 80/100 * x = 8024.

                  x = 20,000.

2. In an examination, 50/5 of the students failed in mathematics and 60% failed in English. If 30% of the students failed in both the subjects, then the percentage of students who passed in both the subjects was:

Solution:
                    n(AUB) = n(A)+n(B)-n(A∩B)
                                  = 50+ 60-30
                                  = 80.

                    Percentage passed = 100-80
                                                  = 20%.
