Aptitude Day 68

Problems on Ratio and Proportion:

1. If a:b = 2:3 and b:c = 7:8, find a:b:c.

Solution:
                a = 2*7 = 14.
                b = 3*7 = 21
                c = 8*3 = 24.
              Hence,  a:b:c is 14:21:24.

2. Find
         A. The fourth proportional to 2,4 and 5;
         B. The third proportional to  3 and 9:
         C. the mean proportional between 9 and 64.

Solution:
           A. 2:4::5:d is equivalent to (4*5) = 2d
                                                          20 = 2d
                                                          d = 10.

           B. 3:9::9:c is equivalent to (9*9) = 3c
                                                         81 = 3c
                                                          c = 27.

          C. (9*64)1/2 = 3*8 = 24.
