Aptitude Day 167

Problems on Average:

1. A grocer has a sale of 4005, 4500, 4900 and 3995 for 4 consecutive months. How much sale must he have in the 5th month so that he gets an average sale of 5000?

Solution:
                The Sum of the sale of 4 months = 17400. (4005+4500+4900+3995 = 17400)

                The Sum of the sale of 5 months = 5000*5 = 25000.

The sum required in the 5th month in order to reach the average sale= 25000-17400 = 7600.

2. A company produces on an average 7600 items per month for the 1st 5 months. How many items it must produce on an average per month over the next 7 months, to average 5500 items per month over the whole?

 Solution:
                  [(5500*12) ā€“ (7600*5)] / 7 = (66000-38000)/7
                                                              = 28000/7
                                                              = 4000.
