2. 1: 8.
Problems on Time and Distance:
1. The ratio between the speeds of 2 trains is 2:3. If the 2nd train runs 600 km/hr in 6 hours, then the speed of the 1st train is:
Solution:
3x = 600/6 = 33.3.
The speed of the 1st train = 2x
= 66.6 km/hr.
2. A train travels at an average of 10 miles per hour for 3(1/2) hours and then travels at a speed of 30 miles per hour for 4(1/2) hours. How far did the train travel in the entire 8 hours?
Solution:
Distance = 10*3(1/2) + 30*4(1/2)
= 10*(7/2) + 30*(9/2)
= 170 miles.
