Problems on Time and Distance:

1. The Sound is said to travel in the air about 600 feet per second. A man hears the axe striking the tree. 7/6 seconds after he sees it strike the tree. How far is the man from the woodchopper?

Solution:
                 Distance = 600*7/6 
                                = 700 feet.

2. An express train travelled at an average speed of 200 km/hr, stopping for 2 minutes after every 40 km. How long did it take to reach its destination 800 km from the starting point?

Solution:
                 Time taken to cover 800 km = 800/200 = 4 hours.

                 Number of stoppages = 800/40 - 1= 19.

                Total time of stoppages = 2*19 = 38 minutes.

                Total time to reach the destination = 4 hours 38 minutes.
