Aptitude Day 278

Problems on Time and Distance:

1. In covering a distance of 20 km. A takes 1 hour more than B. If A doubles his speed, then he would take 1 hour less than B. A’s speed is:

Solution:
                  Let A’s speed be x.

                  20/x – 20/2x = 1+1.
                   (40-20)/2x = 2.

                   By solving this, we get
                   x = 5 km/hr.

2. If a man walks at 10 km/hr instead of 5 km/hr, he would have walked 30 km more. The actual distance travelled by him is:

Solution:
                   x/5 = x+30/10
                   10x = 5x+150
                   x = 30 km.
